Saturday, May 1, 2010 – Happy May Day! Does anyone celebrate May Day leaving baskets of flowers on people’s porches? Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a May Day tradition of leaving a basket of flowers on someone’s front porch, ringing the doorbell and running off in hopes of being chased down by the owner to receive a kiss in thanks for the gift.  Hmmm, I don’t see that happening these days so I leave you with a snapshot of a blooming tree I took the other day… imagine a bell ringing… o.k…. you can kiss me later.

Another May 1st tradition is Elitch Garden’s Opening Day. The amusement park is celebrating a milestone this year….  Happy 120th Elitch’s.

It’s also Free Day at the Denver Art Museum.

This supports Steele Elementary school and 5% of each ticket sold is donated to the Denver Public Schools Educational Outreach Program (EOP) that helps homeless DPS students attend school during difficult times.

Case-Shiller Index: Denver home prices show annual increase for 1st time in 3 years:

Colorado Foreclosure Sales Down 4% in 2009; Fewer Filings Lead to Sales: There were 20,437 home foreclosures completed in Colorado in 2009, down 4.1 percent from 2008′s total and down 18.4 percent from the peak year of 2007, the state’s Division of Housing reported February 4^th. read more here

Metro Denver EDC Releases 2010 Economic Forecast: Denver Economic Development Corporation (Metro Denver EDC) presented the 2010 Economic Forecast for Metro Denver at Vectra Bank’s 17th Annual Economic Forecast Breakfast. Metro Denver’s economy fared better than many regions through the early months of recession. While employers in the seven-county region cut jobs at certain points in early 2008, the region also added net new jobs through the first three quarters of 2008. read more here
